Work Week Commences

This past Thursday we gained “possession” of our new home. Meaning the sellers were out and we finally have FREE REIGN!

The kids and I went over there that afternoon. I think that’s when it finally hit Knox that this is where he’ll be living. He was so excited, mainly about his new room. He gave me very specific instructions on how to paint it and where to put his bed ;)

We were actually there meeting a contractor for a quote. (My life for the past 2 weeks…) Once he left I went to get the kids out of the backyard. I quickly realized that the back door as well as the front automatically lock from the outside. (FIRST THING TO GO!) And yep, my purse, car keys, as well as every other key and garage opener to the house were on the kitchen counter. Figures!

At least I had my phone. I was able to unlock and start the Tahoe from my app so we could cool off (On-Star saves my day once again! Greatest thing ever.), and then call James to come get us and our realtor to help me figure something out… Fortunately for us, the sellers was still in the area. She was able to drive by and open the garage since it was still programmed in her car.

After all that we were hot and HUNGRY so we picked up a pizza from Picasso’s and had our very first meal in our new house.

I had a meeting scheduled with a contractor at 7, so the kids ran around outside until then.

The seller’s left behind the basketball goal in the backyard!

He’s too cool for me. Obviously.

Knox is loving it!

Saturday morning marked the beginning of Work Week. I’ll document this process as best I can on here…

Day 1 : Saturday

We got up early and packed both vehicles with some essentials for the week - painting supplies, tools, snacks, toys, and our small TV and DVDs of course.

We set up Hadley’s room-to-be as the make-shift playroom for this week.

While the guest room is serving as Hadley’s nap room. I was SO relieved that she actually took a good 2-3 hour nap Saturday and Sunday. I work 5 times slower when my little “helper” is by my side…

Saturday morning we had people coming non-stop (more quotes) but we were still able to get a good start on painting.

First thing to go was the yellow kitchen! I decided to go with the same neutral that’s used throughout the house.

This is the finished look in the eating area. I still want to do a few more things in the actual kitchen, but it is already looking 10 times better to me!

We also started Knox’s room on Saturday…

The left is Before, and the right is after the first coat of paint.

Day 2 : Sunday

This was our electrical work day. We needed several things brought up to code and replaced. The guys were there for 6 or 7 hours, but they did a great job. I’m glad to have it all taken care of! James met them at the house early to cut the grass while the kids and I ran errands. If you can believe it, I made 3 trips to Home Depot and 1 to Lowe’s all before 2pm. Craziness.

We were able to finish painting Knox’s room. I absolutely LOVE this grayish-blue and how it looks with his bedding  - his quilt is madras and his duvet is the gray stripe. James also replaced the ceiling fan in there, so all this room lacks is the carpet and a few finishing touches.

We then moved the “playroom” in to Knox’s room so I could start painting Hadley’s. I’m pretty sure I’ll finish that tomorrow.

James hung bamboo shades in the kitchen and living room windows. They look great! (And are screaming for drapes…)

Knox found his first worm in his new backyard. I‘m so proud.

Lastly we made a new friend on Sunday…

James took this picture from our bedroom window! There are 2 squirrels nests in that tree. Knox thought this was the greatest. He keeps calling them his pets and giving them new names every other hour.

I have another long day ahead of me tomorrow!

I love the house! Would you mind posting the paint brand/color you used on the kitchen? It looks like that was the same color mustard yellow that we have in our kitchen. Did you have to prime? Thanks!
