Things I Do When I Should Be Packing…

I wrote this over a week ago, but never got around to actually posting it. (Along with several others…) We finally have internet in the new place, so here’s to playing catch-up! See previous post to find out more about our move :)

I am a huge procrastinator. Like, BAD. It’s amazing the things I find myself doing when I’m up against a deadline.

For instance…

We close on our house on Thursday. We move on Friday. And what have I done this past week???

{1} Freshened up our playroom storage…

We found our PBK organization system over a year ago on Craig’s List.  It keeps me sane. They came with the chalkboard labeled baskets, but the original ribbons were kind of Blah and the chalk always got wiped off. Sooo…

I replaced the ribbons with cute, playful ones and used a chalk board pen to label the baskets. Just a few minor updates, but it gives the entire system a make-over.

This would probably be funnier if you knew how long I’ve had the ribbons and the honest intention of doing it. (Literally since we got it.) Yet I wait until I have a million other things I need to be doing???

The activity table, too :)

{2} Cook. And bake. And cook some more…

I’m talking fussy, unnecessary recipes. But oh so good.

I was REALLY in the mood for Shrimp and Grits last Friday, so that’s what we had. I use this recipe and make a double batch of grits so we have enough for leftovers.

We had a fajita night on Sunday. I’d pinned PW’s recipe for homemade salsa, and I was itching to try it…

So I made homemade salsa. Ha! I’m a big fan. Since moving to Texas I’ve gone from liking chunky salsa, to now preferring it more pureed. Like restaurant style. (I’ve also gone from detesting guacamole to loving it. Not sure if this has anything to do with moving to Texas, but it works out well.)

This salsa has a great consistency and flavor. It’s especially good with OTB’s brand Cantina Thins chips. It made enough to fill one and a half mason jars.

Yesterday I decided I needed Starbuck’s Cranberry Bliss Bars. Except they’re only available during the holidays… You got it - Pinterest :)

This recipe is VERY close to Starbuck’s. The only thing I’ll do different next time is use a slightly bigger pan. These are so rich and they turned out a bit thick in the 13x9. I also baked them for 2 or 3 minutes more than the recipe.

{3} I made bows…

Lots and lots of bows. Because I stocked up on some cute ribbon and Hadley wouldn’t be able to survive without more bows until after the move, of course.

IMG_4488

I made these to stack on each other. The stripes I made to match a Zulily outfit, and the leopard I had on hand and just thought it’d be fun.

Double-stacked ruffle bow. I love these with spring smocks. I think I’ve bought 3 and they all fell apart. Not this one!

{4} I made a new Springy door hanger…

Ya know - for the front door that will only be ours for 3 more days. (Fortunately, our townhouse also comes with a front door.)

But really, I LOVE how this turned out. It was kind of a last minute thing I decided to do while at Joann’s last weekend. I saw a hanging flat wicker basket… And then I saw green hydrangeas. And white gardenias. And I just had to :)

Now if only I could be this productive when I DON’T have 537 other things I need to be doing…

Ya I have a ton of packing to do and I find myself in pinterest or designing blogs instead. I keep telling myself that we still have 31 days, but at the same time we only have 31 more days until we move across the country! Lol
