Monogrammed Jewelry Holder

We’re finally getting around to decorating our master bathroom. It’s coming along nicely, I’m just adding the finishing touches now…

After coming across all these great ideas for jewelry holders on Pinterest I decided I needed one. I decided to go with the burlap framed version, except I wanted to add a little flare…

And by flare I mean a MONOGRAM, of course!

I had an idea of how to do it, but wasn’t sure if it’d work or not… Luckily for me it did, and luckily for you I took pics along the way :)

This was a super easy project. Here’s what you need…

jewelry1

  • open-back frame (Hobby Lobby had their frames marked 50% off so this 11x14 beauty was just $15!)
  • cork board ($3, Hobby Lobby)
  • burlap ($4/yard, Joann’s)
  • acrylic paint ($2-3, Hobby Lobby)
  • small screw-in cup hooks ($3, Target)
  • printed out monogram

{1} Find and print out your desired monogram. I took a screen shot of one from my embroidery software. I used PhotoShop to crop and enlarge it to the size I wanted (11 inches), then printed it out. I’m sure you could search for one online and use the same concept. It doesn’t matter if it’s grainy or poor quality; you just need the shape.

{2} Cut out a piece of burlap a little bigger than the frame.

{3} Center the monogram face-down on the burlap. Tape in to place.

{4} Flip burlap over. You will be able to see the shape of the monogram through it. Carefully paint over it…

I thought this would take forever, but it really didn’t. You just want to make sure the paper is taped down good to keep the burlap from shifting. Let dry…

{5} If needed, cut cork board to the size of the frame opening. I saw 11x14 cork boards earlier this week at Michael’s, but the one I got from HobLob was long, so James trimmed it down with his table saw.

{6} Center monogrammed burlap over the corkboard. Secure edges to the back of the board using a hot glue gun.

{7} Insert cork board in to frame. You could glue it in, but mine fit so snug I didn’t need to.

I cut out a second piece of burlap just smaller than the frame opening and glued it to the back for a more finished look.

{8} Screw hooks in to place.

This frame didn’t come with hanging hardware. Instead of adding it, I just used a few picture hanger Command strips (the velcro ones) to stick it on the wall…

So pretty AND functional! This is most of my everyday jewelry. (Obviously I have a thing for silver and pearls.) These are the pieces that are usually left on the vanity or nightstand at the end of the day - at the mercy of Knox and Hadley… NO MORE!

I LOVE this!! It's pretty AND functional! I made a burlap memory verse board that looks fairly similar(http://mrshargrave.blogspot.com/2011/12/oh-pinterest.html), but one can never have too much burlap, right? Can't wait to recreate this - thanks for sharing! :)

I'm so going to try this! I have a few "every day" necklaces that just lay on my dressing table and ultimately get caked with hairspray. Thanks for the tutorial!!
