First - I haven’t really taken any pictures since we got here. I’ll include the few I have on my phone. I’m promising myself to break out the normal camera today!
Like I said - we left bright and early at 6am on Saturday. We made GREAT time and the trip was flying by… Until we got on the other side of Little Rock. We hit about 30 miles of stand still construction traffic which set us back about 2 hours :( The worst part is - we were only like 2 hours away from Memphis. The kids actually did great though, so it could have been much worse…
We got to my mom’s house Saturday afternoon. Mom made us a tray of her lasagna, and my big brother and one of my little sisters came over for dinner and to visit. I love living in Texas, but this type of family time is what I miss the most :( Knox and
Hadley had so much fun playing with Nana, Nick, and Kim.
Sunday I woke up another year older… It was my 25th birthday! It feels a little surreal to be 25, but it was a good day. We went to church with mom and then grabbed lunch at Panera Bread. (We don’t have one convenient to our house so this was a treat!) We went back to mom’s, put the kids down for a nap, and James and I got out to run errands. We actually didn’t have anything important to do, but being able to shop without kids is a HUGE treat for us. We found ourselves making stops at Target, Sam’s, and Kohl’s just to enjoy our kidless time…
Afterwards we packed up the kids and headed out to spend a few days with James’ family. We actually dropped Knox off at James’ sister’s house on the way so he could have a sleepover with his 3 cousins. (All boys!) He had SO much fun and was NOT a happy camper this morning when Aunt Michelle delivered him back to boring ole mom and dad…
With brother gone, Hadley got to enjoy some rare one-on-one grandparent time unday night. After we dropped her off, James took me out on a “date night” for my birthday. We started out at Bonefish which I love because (a) we had our first date there and (b) we don’t have them in Texas. We had the Bang Bang Shrimp for an appetizer and then I had the salmon with spinach and gorgonzola sauce for dinner. (YUMMMM!) With a glass or two of Moscato to boot. It was the perfect birthday dinner! They even brought me a warm brownie a la mode with a candle in it :)
We stayed at Bonefish for a little while just to talk, then decided to go ahead and catch the 7pm showing of Breaking Dawn… Now I read and thoroughly enjoyed all of the Twilight books, but the movies have always just been Meh for me. (That’s how it always is, right?!?) We still always see them just so I can compare them to the books and so that James can keep up with the story…
Y’all want to know what’s sad? We were back by 9pm and sooo tired! Haha. That makes me feel so old, but oh well. It was a great night out anyway. I 100% love being a stay-at-home mom, but sometimes I feel like I go so long without non-kid-focused adult time. It’s nice to get in touch with the non-mommy side of me sometimes too :)
{James parents live on a bunch of land out in the country. When he goes back home he likes to pretend he’s not a suit-wearing, city boy…}
We spent Monday just hanging out at James’ parents house. The kids had a blast with MiMi and PawPaw. Knox has been on a continual sugar high and I’m pretty sure Hadley convinced MiMi to open at least half of her Christmas presents… And she can’t even talk yet!
Speaking of Hadley… She was 15 months Sunday! I need to take some pictures of her so I can go ahead and do her 15mo post. She has turned in to such a little character, I’m trying to jot things down in a draft so I don’t forget to include them. She is perfect little mess these days!
We headed back to my mom’s Tuesday morning. I did laundry (crazy how fast it builds up in just 3 days) and then we met my Dad and brother for lunch to watch the Memphis vs. Tennessee basketball game. (Go Tigers!) I let Dad take Knox for the afternoon and James and I ran a few errands…
Tuesday night Mom had my official birthday celebration. My other sister made it in town from Knoxville so everyone was able to make it. We had Corky’s BBQ (another one of those Musts when we come home to visit) and mom made me a homemade strawberry sheet cake. It was so good, I’ll have to get the recipe… I got several pieces to my Willow Tree nativity set, a necklace, money, gift cards, house shoes, and a cute little throw pillow my sister found at a boutique shop.
{Here’s the recipe Mom used for the cake. So good!}
Today I’m helping mom do some cooking for tomorrow and then who knows what else :) I really do promise to take more pictures though!

It looks like you are thoroughly enjoying your time at home! I feel the same way about the Twilight books vs. movies ... have to see them, but enjoy the books SO much more! Happy 25th birthday! I hope you celebrate all week long!!
