While Mom was in town she wanted to take us to do something fun so we decided to check out the Grapevine Vintage Railroad on Sunday.
I love when we have company. There's so many fun things to do around here it gives us an excuse to be tourists in our own area… The GVRR runs 2 original 1890-1920s Victorian style passenger trains up and down the Cotton Belt Route. It's like stepping back in time!
Knox is fascinated by anything that "goes" these days. This was like his own personal paradise.
We got to the train station and boarded at 12:30. Then by 1 we were on our way to the Stockyards via vintage rail.
It was such a pretty day, we chose to sit in the semi-open air car.
It was a 1hr ride and Knox waved to every person, horse, steer, and dog along the way.
Hadley got a really big kick out of it too!
There was a group of Asian woman who were touring the US. They didn't speak much English but they got the biggest kick out of Hadley's bow. They asked me if they could take pictures of her, so I was like Umm, ok… So they snapped away just as if she was the Grand Canyon or the Washington Monument. I think that's a cultural thing, but it made me laugh! They were very sweet though.
James posing, yet acting like he's not… ;)
Yes I was hanging out the window to get this. Anything for a photo op, right???
Once we got to the Stockyards we ate and just walked around for a bit…
And found a pony for Knox to ride.
Just look at that proud little face… He loved it!!!
Miss Hadley got her nap in while we waited to see the cattle drive.
Here they come!
This is always a fun thing to watch.
We went through some of the shops. We let Knox pick out a new cowboy hat ("Like Woody's") and go to the candy shop…
Then it was time to wait for our train ride back…
Little H still napping…
Telling the train to STOP!!!
Trains, horses, longhorns, cowboy hats, and candy… Equals one happy boy!
Did I mention we got H a hat too??? HA!
Hadley's first sucker!
The ride back was a little rough. We spent about 45 minutes stalled on the tracks mid-way, turning a 1hr trip in to a 2hr one. The kids were great though so I can't complain too much.
Once we got back to the station I snapped a few pictures of Knox on some of the old cargo cars…
There were actually a few people having professional pictures done. This is such a cute, vintagey area - I'll have to remember that!
This was a long day, but so much fun. I was looking through the GVRR brochure and noticed they do several fun events throughout the year…
Two we will definitely need to come back for are the Polar Express and the Day Out with Thomas :)

Such cute pictures! Love the one hanging out the window.
I used to live in Grapevine and always wanted to ride that train. I'm sure Jack would love the Day out with Thomas and the North Pole Express too!
I've been reading your blog/twitter for a while now and your kids are just precious!
I grew up and still live in Grapevine/Colleyville and love the train. I still want to ride it just for fun!
So much fun! My husband is from Ft Worth and we go to the Stockyards every time we visit. Love the cattle drive! We will have to take that train ride when we head down there for Thanksgiving!

We've done Day Out with Thomas the past couple of years....SO fun. Trying the Polar Express for the first time this year.
My sister is a teacher and some of her students have done the Polar Express thing. They said it was really, really neat!
