A Day in the Life…

I've been thinking for a while how I would do this. Our days are all so different, and often unpredictable. But I think it'd be neat to look back on how I spent these days with a 3 and 1 year old… So I'm giving it a fair shot!

{Just throwing a few pictures in. I had to run to MAC today. We were SO excited to see that the mall Christmas tree is up!}

6:00-6:30am : This is when Knox wakes up most days. For the record… I am NOT a morning person. I think it is unfair that I have a child that is. (*Pout*) This is the sole reason James and I put a TV in our room several years ago. So we could sit him in front of some cartoons until the rest of the world is ready to get up!

6:30-7:30am : I try to get up and going somewhere around this time. Earlier on school days. I get myself put together first. This either means jeans and a decent top or my workout gear. And bare minimum - tinted moisturizer and mascara so I don't scare people.

7:00-8:00am : I get the kids dressed and feed them breakfast. Sometimes I have to wake Hadley up. Knox usually likes oatmeal, cereal, or mini pancakes and yogurt. Hadley gets a Nutri-Grain bar, cereal, fruit, yogurt, etc. While they eat I enjoy a cup of coffee while either unloading clean dishes or packing lunches and backpacks for MDO.

8:50am : This is the time we leave for MDO on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On M/W/F, if we have errands to run or I have a class at the gym we also try to leave at least by this time so we are home in time for lunch and naps.

*Since T/Th are MDO days, I'll give you that mid-day schedule first…

9:00-11:00am : I head straight to the gym after dropping the kids at school. I have Pilates from 9:30-10:30 on Tuesdays, and on Thursdays I do cardio from the time I get there until 10 when I have a 1hr private training session with 3 other girls from MOPS…

11:00-2:00pm : If I have errands to run I try to do them right after the gym before I need to get the kids. The same if I have a doctor's appointment for myself… Otherwise I'll go home straight after the gym, catch up on chores, and if the stars align - sew.

2:00-4:00pm : I pick the kids up from MDO at 2. We usually head straight home, eat a small snack and then I put H down for just an hour nap since she doesn't take a very long one at school. Knox will usually play in his room, playroom or outside. If he's cranky (which sometimes happens on MDO days) I'll just let him have quiet time and watch a movie. I can never get him to take a 2nd nap after MDO.

*For our M/W/F schedule…

9:00-11:30am : This is usually the time we spend running errands or tackling household chores. At least one of these 3 days I try to get to the gym for a morning group fitness class (usually Pilates Mat or Hot Yoga) and some cardio. The kids LOVE the child center there!

11:30-12:30pm : Somewhere around here we eat lunch. Usually sandwiches, chicken nuggets, soup, leftovers, etc.

1:00-4:00pm : NAPTIME! Knox will usually nap 2 hrs, Hadley 3. This is my time to catch up on chores, blogging, email, start dinner prep, etc. Sometimes I even like to enjoy an afternoon cup of coffee or apple cider… Why I LOVE my Keurig!!!

*Now back to the everyday…

5:00pm : Wake Hadley up if she's still sleeping and I start dinner. Knox plays outside if it's pretty. Otherwise, they both play in the playroom.

6:00-6:30pm : Unfortunately this is the earliest James ever gets home from work :(

6:30-7:00pm : Since he gets home later, this is the earliest we can eat dinner. Not ideal because the kids are usually hungry right at 5:30. I dream of the day where he doesn't have a 2hr/day commute…

7:30pm : Baths and kitchen clean-up. James will usually take one (baths) while I do the other. Or we'll tag team both together.

8:00pm : We let the kids watch a little Netflix while Hadley takes her nighttime milk sippy. This is also when I shower! It works out well because my hair takes FOREVER to dry, so I let it air dry a bit, add some root spray and hair serum, and just clip it in a high, loose bun to sleep on. It's mostly dry (but not creased) by morning. And it takes 1 more thing out of my morning routine.

8:30pm : Bedtime. Luckily both kids are pretty easy to put down. We read 2 books, say prayers, and they go down on their own.

8:30-10:00pm : James and I sit down to watch DVR or a movie together.

10:00-11:30 : James is usually in bed by 10-10:30 to be up in time for work. I usually stay up until 11 or 11:30. This is when I get a lot of my blogging done and/or watch my DVR shows that James can't stand ;)

So there you have it… But like I said, it's very hard for me to pin us down to a tight schedule. Mainly because the kids only go to school 2 days a week, and it seems like we have an impromptu trip to the pediatrician AT LEAST every other week. Not to mention all of the regular well child appointments… Most weeks we have a play date, MOPS, or some other social function thrown in to the mix somewhere. And then there's the last minute trips to the post office, grocery store for milk, Target for a birthday present or something for school… We have NO normal days :)

Our 10hrs/wk of MDO is such a blessing! Especially since we don't have any family here to help out in a pinch. That's my window to get non-kid-friendly errands taken care of and to just bask in some Me Time. Not to mention the kids LOVE it.

All-in-all, I love being able to stay home with the kids! Sometimes I miss being in the NICU, but for now it's not feasible for our family and I'm just not ready to give up this time with my babies. I know there will come a day where I'll have all the time in the world to work and go to school :)

I could have written this post!It seriously sounds identical to our days minus the gym! I've gotten really bad about going since our gym's new location doesn't have childcare.
Brody is the exact same way about naps after MDO!

Sounds a lot like our days, and we have the same struggles with MDO naps. I love MDO mornings when I am so productive but I hate having a cranky toddler after!

Anyway, Gabe was waking up at 5:30 (!!!) for a while and his doctor suggested I put him to bed earlier. He had been going to bed at 8/8:30 but I moved it to between 7/7:30 and surprisingly, he has started sleeping until about 6:30. Not sure if that would work with your schedule but if you are anything like me, I was willing to try anything for a little more sleep in the morning! ha! Just thought I'd pass it along incase you were interested.
