The Low Down

I feel like I have so many little things to update on, so I'm just giving them to y'all straight. List style…

* Sinusitis

I developed a nasty sinus infection and pharyngitis Monday. I broke down and went to the doctor yesterday - which I hardly ever do - but having to care for 2 kids during the day, I knew I couldn't afford to be out of commission for a week. Especially since I've been running a 100-102 fever. I'm usually like 97.1 and NEVER run a fever, so that has thrown me for a whirl… Took my second dose of antibiotic this morning but I'm still feeling pretty blah. Hoping I kick this soon.

I guess it's the weather because Knox and Hadley have also been super congested lately. No fevers for them yet, knock on wood…

*New Guilty Pleasure…

DanceMoms_20_0

Oh lordy. I have a new show to add to my Toddlers in Tiaras. Dance Moms. I sat down to watch a few episodes last week and now I'm hooked. (a) These little 8-9 year old girls can DANCE. They are so fun to watch. (b) The moms are straight-up crazy. Drama, drama everywhere and I'm amazed they don't have to stage anything. (You can tell…) (c) The dance instructor - Abby Lee - is a hoot. So hardcore. She reminds me of instuctors/coaches I've had in the past…

So yep. I'm hooked. And James will even sit down to watch it with me so we can just laugh over these moms. I told him to watch out… That may be me someday ;) I believe it airs Wednesday nights at 9, but I've got all the episodes and re-runs set to DVR. And I found full episodes to watch on MyLifetime.com.

*Mommy Brain Moment

James had a field day over this story and told me to make sure it made it to the blog so here goes… Y'all know those TotLock cabinet safety systems? Where you have to use a magnet to open the door… Well we have one on our chemicals cabinet under the sink to make it extra secure and it's always worked out well because the magnet will just stick to the edge of the sink.

Well I don't know what happened last Friday but I went to make tea so I put my pot of water on the gas burner, started the flame, and then went about my cleaning… After a minute or so I smelt something burning and turn over to the stove to see flames coming up all around the pot. (12 second FREAK OUT moment.)

Once I got a hold of myself I grabbed the pot threw it in the sink, turned off the gas, and realized what had happened. The Tot Lock magnet had somehow ended up on the burner under the rack and was on fire. So I filled the pot of water back up and just threw it on the stove - relieved that it worked. And the kicker…

The magnet still works ;) It was fun to explain the story to James when he got home and saw this burnt thing in a baggie. I guess we'll need to make a run to Lowe's to a get a replacement soon.

*Dukan

dukan-diet

James and I started the Dukan Diet yesterday. Have y'all heard of it? I read the book over the weekend and was impressed. Plus Kate Middleton does it so obvi I was in ;) I like it because anyone can do it, no matter how much weight you want to loose. Currently, I'm about 4lbs from my fit-in-to-my-perfect-jeans-weight, but that varies week to week depending on how much water I'm retaining. So it's less about number for me and more about things just feeling so out of place and weak. I wanted something to detox and reboot my body so I can get the most out of my work-outs, and from what I've read this will be perfect.

Day 1 went well.  (Probably because I was sick and feverish so I didn't feel like eating anyway.) The plan is broken down in to 4 phases. The first is the Attack Phase (3-7days) and you're allowed to eat unlimited amounts of lean proteins (egg whites, turkey, chicken, non-fat dairy, etc.) It is pretty filling but I'm REALLY missing my Coffee Mate in the morning, my cereal, and vegetables. I lost 3 lbs on day 1, which I'm fairly certain was water weight, but my goal was "detox" so that is good! I'll keep y'all updated on how this goes…

*Mandy's MCAT

I need to brag on my little sis real quick… Mandy is in her senior year at the University of Tennessee and found out last week that she made a 34 on her MCAT! This puts her in the 92nd percentile out of all the smarties who took the MCAT. So in short - this is VERY good and is going to give her the upper hand in choosing a medical school. So proud of my little genius :)

*MOPS

We had our yearly kick-off meeting this Monday. We have a lot of new moms this year so it was fun to meet them all. Especially Mommarazzi. I've been keeping up with Lindsay's blog for awhile now so it was fun to actually meet her in person!

*Soccer

Knox started soccer practice last night. We went Monday night to pick out cleats, shin guards, and socks - and oh my gosh, I'm pretty sure he was the cutest thing I've ever seen!

He did really well at first, then about 30 minutes in to it went in to his Tues/Thur melt-down mode. I guess it was a combination of being tired from school and feeling congested. I pulled him out early but we'll be back next week to try again.

*Hadley

Hadley is still on the verge of walking. And she will repeat anything these days. I got this video of her yesterday while waiting to see the doctor. Disregard how sick and miserable I sound…

You know I'm under the weather when I let H out in public in jammies and messy hair! She's still a cutie anyway though ;)

This just makes me laugh. I put her in this 12mo tutu this morning and my petite thing just can't seem to keep it up!

………………………………………..

Ok I think about covers it. If you made it this far!

Dance Moms is so entertaining! My husband will actually sit and watch as well! I can totally relate to the show because I currently stepped down from coaching cheerleading because those crazy mama's wore me out! Love your blog! :)

So fun to put blogs to a real live person!
We are doing soccer too--it's SO much fun. He is liking it much better than t-ball...it's just more action-packed, which is good for their age!
I am going to have to catch Dance Moms.
