Rough Start

Ok I wanted to add some pics in here but until I can figure out how to save some of my YFrog pics to my iPad that'll have to wait. Just wanted to update on the crazy past 24hrs we've had...

[Apologizing ahead of time for the Debbie Downer post. I kind of just need to vent.]

So we left yesterday to make our flight around 4:30. James had booked the 6:30 flight because it was the cheapest and it was supposed to have us to Panama City by 9:30. Late, but still reasonable...

Well as soon as we leave I see big black clouds rolling in and get on my phone to find out about a random severe weather warning. Awesome. As soon as we checked our bags at the airport the rain started pouring and we found out that our flight was delayed until 7:45. Ugh. Of course all flights were being held so the airport was a mad house. We had to camp out on the floor and planned on just grabbing dinner, but after standing in line for 30 minutes and ordering food, I went to pay and was informed that the airports card machines were down. (I'm so bad about carrying cash.) So the bag of gummy worms I'd bought to "bribe" Knox with on the plane had to suffice.

We finally got to board around 8, got ready to take off, when the pilot informed us that the air control had once again put a hold on departures. (Seriously.) So we sit on the runway for another hour. Our flight attendant informed us that there'd be no beverage/snack service during the flight due to the storm, but you'd think with us sitting there for so long she could have passed out something? Finally some random guy grabbed the bag of snacks and passed them out. I was still parched by this point though...

We finally took off for our 6:30 flight at 9, and the flight itself took twice as long because we had to go around several storms. Which in turn gave me a lot of anxiety. We had a lot of turbulence and saw tons of lighting. No fun :( And this was only our first flight. We were routing through Houston.

Well our control-freak flight attendant made an announcement midflight that the seatbelt sign would remain on and no one was to be moving about. Which I understand but she can't possibly expect that a plane full of people who've been on there for 4 hours not to have to go to the bathroom. Especially a toddler... OF COURSE Knox starts asking to go potty, we try to tell him to hold it, but realized quickly this was not gonna happen. I finally take him to the back only to have the flight attendant tell me not so nicely to go sick back down. (I mean, we have a toddler potty emergency!!!)

I'm a rule follower so I took Knox back. The entire plane was in disbelief that she'd told him he couldn't go. We sit there for about 30 more min and by that time Knox is hysterical. I finally grabbed a pull-up out of our carry-on bag, changed him in it there and told him to go in his pants... Well bless his heart, he was not having that. He kept crying saying "I don't understand! It's not fair..." (Break my heart.)

He was hell bent on not going in his pants and getting SO worked up. To the point of screaming fits. I think the combination of the crying, pressure change, and his allergies then sent him in to a full on asthma attack. (And our nebulizer was in the checked bag.) At this point it was serious. He couldn't breath. So I threw the rules out the window and ran him to the potty, the flight attendant yelling at me the whole time. (And to set things straight - YES we had turbulence. But this chick was up and down the whole flight flirting with the guy across from me so it wasn't like the plane was going down.) She even made a smug little announcement as we were walking back to our seat. Something about "even though some people choose to disrespect the seatbelt sign, no one is to be moving about..." (I was so tired and over it I don't know how I didn't slap her. She clearly has never had children.)

After Knox pottyed he was content but still have breathing issues. I almost requested an oxygen mask for him, but I was able to hold him and give him sissy's pacie which helped him calm down. (Whatever works!)

Anyway, we stayed on the same plane (with the same crew) from Houston to PCB but luckily had a much more pleasant flight. Although my fave flight attendant was super rude and smug the whole way. ...Instead of pulling in to PCB at out expected time of 9:30, we touched down at 12:30am! And it was nearly 2 before we were able to get to the condo, get everyone settled back down, and in to bed.

Fast-forward to today - obviously we slept in this morning, but the kids have had a good day on the beach and pool. Things were going good until we got a call from our home security company saying that our house alarm had gone off. (I mean, really?!?) After a few frantic phone calls to friends and having the police walk through our house, we finally got word that it was a false alarm. Although I have no idea what would have set it off :(

Phew! So sorry to be so negative, but it's just been kind of one of those unbelievable 24hrs that I just wanted to write down. (Although the experience will be hard to forget.) But seriously - we are thrilled to be at the beach with family and despite the craziness, I'm still glad we were able to fly. Our 3 hour trip may have turned in to 6hrs, but it's still better than 2 days!

Only happy thoughts from here on out :) Hopefully I'll figure out how to post some pics on here soon...

Awww I'm so sorry about your horrible flight! I honestly would let the airline know about the flight attendant!

Oh my gosh! What airline were you flying on?

Oh my goodness, that sounds soooo stressful! Traveling with little ones is hard enough when things all go right! I agree with the other posters that you should write a complaint about the flight attendant!

Wow, sorry to hear about all of that, but I was really into your story! I couldn't imagine if my child had to go to the bathroom and the distress that would cause.

Ugh... what a terrible night. Sorry to hear about all of that.

That flight attendant is crazy.

I hope the rest of your trip is going/went well!!
