I guess it was Wednesday when I decided it was time for the living room to be painted. (Which with our layout also includes the entry way, stair well, and upstairs hallway...) Our house is 5 years old and these walls have never been painted. I'm so sick of looking at flat wall texture everyday I could scream.
See what I mean - AWFUL, lifeless white. Except for the array of $3 paint samples I've collected over the past year... (Seriously. People like me should not be allowed to buy those things.) Whenever guests come over I always joke with them that I'm going with the "camo" look ;)
Anyway - we went to Lowe's and I got 2.5 of the major walls done. And then it happened... I realized the color was ALL wrong. I'm famous for this. I'm pretty sure the only reason James didn't kill me was because of Mother's Day... But in my defense, the high walls, openess, and big windows in here make picking colors tricky. Nothing ever looks like you think it will, and the Camel color I chose ended up looking pretty pale and washed out...
So I know, it's not horrible but I need something to cozy up this big room. I finally found 2 colors I really like that I plan on doing most of the downstairs in. The first...
Much, much better ;) Although this is one of my mom's colors from a small company in Memphis, so I'll have to get it color-matched. And the second is kind of the same but lighter and a little more grey... So you know what I'll be busy doing this week! I'm so looking forward to having this done. I feel like I haven't been able to do any of the "little" decorating things because the major stuff has been hanging over my head... Maybe I'll have so 'After' pics this time next week.
Friday we spent getting ready for our neighborhood garage sale. I typically send everything to Good Will, but since this sale was coming up I thought I'd give it a try. Not to mention I had so many nice things built up that we couldn't use, but I still couldn't stand to just give away...
We opened up "shop" early Saturday morning and it was a huge success! The sale was 8-noon and by 9 we'd already made $400. I've never seen people so eager to pay me to haul off our junk. I swear at one point I counted 12 cars parked along our house! The kids did really well too...
[Yes, he loves climbing in here with her. I've given up fighting it.]
We all just hung out in the garage, so we had shade and a nice little breeze going. It was kind of fun :)
Knox even got some yard work done for us. Ha! I swear he could do this for hours... Hopefully he'll have that same enthusiasm in about 10 years.
Our grand total on the sale was nearly $700!!! (I was hoping for $200-300...) Along with all the little things, we sold a chest and my high school/college bedroom set. Which I was kind of sad to see go but we're out of room. We still have a nice, big armoire we need to get rid of...
If you think you're interested and are in the area... Let me know!
We celebrated our success with some [Memphis style] BBQ take-out. Then later it was Costco and a random dinner out at Buffalo Wild Wings. (Yikes! Talk about a day of eating bad...) Although we did get to catch the last half of the Memphis Grizzlies game. I'm kind of pumped about these play-off because with the Mavericks doing so well, it's really starting to look like we may be seeing some Memphis vs. Dallas action soon :)
I'll post on my Mother's Day soon!
