We flew home from the beach (which I still owe a post on) Friday morning, and got home around 2. Just enough time to regroup and pick up groceries before my Dad and his crew arrived in town around 6!!! Despite being out of town for a week, I was so glad some family was able to make it to help celebrate Knox's actual birthday with us :)
We grabbed dinner that night at a local Mexican place and all crashed pretty early. Saturday we headed to Main Even for bowling, pizza, and gaming, and then afterwards James and I swung by Sam's to pick up some steaks to grill and the birthday boy's present...
...That would be a swing set. Literally ALL assembly required. Haha! Luckily my Dad was here to help James get started with the hard part - building the frame, and as we later found out - digging out and leveling off the ground. This has been a much bigger project than we anticipated, but it's something we've been wanting to do for the kids for a while so it's worth it. After 2 days of working in 99 degree heat, this is what it looks like now...
And hopefully by tomorrow it will look like this...
Sunday the 29th was Knox's birthday, and after working on the swing-set all day, we let him go ahead and see his present. I showed him the pic online - to which he said "Whooaaa! Castle!" - and I asked him if he wanted that for his birthday, and of course he said yes. So I told him to go outside and look... He was so excited! And a little confused about where the rest of it was. Haha ;)
And just a side-note - my step-brother Phillip is awesome with his camera and let me 'borrow' some of the pics he took over the weekend...
...I think a few of these may be canvas-worthy!!! (That's Phillip holding H in the middle pic. And get a load of her hair... It's really starting to come in!)
I let Knox play with his slip-n-slide and kiddie pool while we grilled out some hamburgers and hotdogs for his birthday dinner. Then it was cake and presents time...
We went with an ice-cream cake from Baskin Robbins. Mmmmm! Since our gift wasn't really "wrappable" - I'm glad Poppy and Mimi came bearing lots of presents. He got a bathing suit, crayons, 2 movies, Thomas trains, and his biggie - the official Thomas set!
I told my Dad he'd love this because he's always obsessing over them whenever we go over to friends' houses that have them, and he's really in to the shows now too. I was right! We had to open them right away and I think we played with them for 2 hours straight. I'm thinking we'll put these on his train table in the play room and move his GeoTrax into a playbin in his room. They never really fit on the train table well.
[Daddy always gives H a mohawk after he bathes her. Poor girl.]
So anyway - that was our fun/busy weekend :) My Dad went home Monday morning and we spent Memorial Day just kind of catching up around here. Laundry, errands, cleaning, swing-set, etc.

I've gotten a picture of Knox every year on his exact birthday, so here is this year's. And it's just so appropriate that he happens to be stuffing his face with a cookie ;)

I love that you take a picture at his exact birthday. I always sing to my girls (and they're all born after 7:53 pm--so sometimes I sing to them as they sleep) on their exact birthday. It's a mommy thing, or at least I think it is. I'm sure my husband just rolls his eyes when I do this!
I <3 the BR ice cream cake! Cute!
