Our Work-in-Progress Room

So I was going to wait until everything was done before I officially debuted our new room, but we got our furniture in Tuesday and most of our bedding in, and I'm just loving how it's all coming together - so I'm sharing a little sneak peek now...

[Key Town by Ashley Furniture. Actually pretty reasonable if you request to be put on one of the rep's mailing lists and then hit up the private sale...]

Ta-Dahhhh!

I love, love, loooooove our new furniture! (Partly because we were using a bed with no headboard and my old furniture from high school/college beforehand, had white walls and absolutely nooooo decor theme...)

[Normally I wouldn't set these two pieces together but our current room with the bay windows limits us to just 2 walls... Oh, and say Hi to Hadley ;) ]

The big selling points for me on this set....

- The BED!

I love the canopy style, and I can take the canopy bars off to make just a plain 4-poster if I want to... And I adore the slats on the headboard. I think it gives it a little bit of a coastal feel, don't ya think?

- I love the higher-set dresser and chest, and the fact that I practically have to jump to get on the bed ;)

- And the nightstands...

They have this little "secret" jewelry shelf that pulls out from the main drawer. Perfect for someone who has a bad habit of leaving her pearls on the nightstand at bedtime...

- I also felt like not only did this set look good with the current styles, but that it would outlast any "trends" and hopefully last us a while... I think it's Southern, regal, and timeless - all in one :)

................................................

I also ADORE my new bedding... I've been eyeing the Alaine Paisley duvet from Pottery Barn for about a year now, but everytime I'd go to order it I'd talk myself out of it, saying it was just "too bright and so out of character for me to decorate with blue..."

Well I just couldn't get it out of my head so I finally decided to go for it a few weeks ago, and of course by then PB was all sold out, so I had to find it on eBay. (So typical...) Also loving the PB Pickstitch Quilt (in Sandalwood) and shams I paired it with.

I was originally gonna go with PB sheets too, but James and I went to Bed Bath & Beyond Tuesday after the furniture was in and found these awesome pima cotton sheets (by Palais Royale) with a sort of geometric design... Love white sheets, and LOVE these!

................................................

No doubt it's coming together, but like I said - it's still a work in progress! Here's what the rest of our To-Do list in there looks like...

- PAINT... Why yes, we DID just paint a few weeks ago. But it's just not the right color. Pretty sure James could strangle me, but neutrals are tricky, right??? I just told him to think of it like a primer coat...

The color I'm wanting is that sample on the wall in between the bed post and headboard. Can you see it? It's more of a toupe with grey undertones as oppossed to a peachy tan. (I'm picky, I know...)

- Most of our bedding is in, but I still need to pick up one more euro sham, and possibly a throw pillow or too. I'm not doing a bedskirt. It'd be a shame to cover up those pretty rails ;)

- The glider chair by the windows is staying just until I finish nursing Hadley. Then it'll go up to the playroom... Either that or I'd love to maybe get it recovered in something white and keep it in there. Hmmm...

- Lamps. I'm thinking something like this...
[Thomas O'Brien at Target]

Hard to tell, but it's brushed satin with clear crackled glass (it's not blue). I've already got a few burlap shades.

- And then just general decorations... A few things for the dresser, pics in my new frames, maybe some white linen drapes on the windows... And a special project we have in mind for above each of our nightstands.

................................................

I'll update our progress, and hopefully in a week or so we'll have finished product! And then it'll be time to tackle the bathroom... It never ends over here ;)

I like the look of your new room. After 14 years of marriage, our decor is still early garage sale/hand me downs!! One day we may have something classic looking like yours.
