Yay for New Toys!!!

So it's no secret I've been itching for an embroidery machine upgrade for a while now. (Love my se350 for sewing purposes, but I was disappointed that it only took a 4"x4" hoop size...) Anyway - I had some birthday/Christmas money saved back to use for a "Mommy purchase" so I decided to go ahead and order the Brother pe770 last week...

[I wasn't prepared for how it would dwarf my se350!]

People always ask about my machine, so I'll give my "unofficial" pe770 review. Reasons why I'm liking it...

- It's an embroidery-only machine, so I can keep my se350 just for sewing and don't have to switch out parts everytime I want to embroider.
- Hoop size. It takes up to a 5"x7" so I FINALLY feel like I can do bigger kid things now. Yet it will still take my 4"x4" - which I prefer for onesies and monograms.
- It stitches much faster, and 'cleaner'. (But of course that's prob just because my se350 is due for a tune-up. It stiches really nicely too.)
- It will read designs from a USB port. I had to use a software and PED card for the 350.
- And lastly... It's a Brother! I've been pleased with their quality of machine and I don't have to worry about converting all my design files.

I actually contemplated jumping up to an even larger hoop size, but there's quite a bit price increase when you go above a 5x7. I realized for the price I'd pay for one of those machines, I could get a nice, used multi-needle commercial grade machine off Craig's List. And I just can't justify having one of those...

But at the end of the day, I really do have 2 great machines!

I was chomping at the bit to take it for a test spin last night, and you KNOW my first project had to be for my Knox...

[I'm so partial to whales. I do them ALL the time..]

Love, love, LOVE how this set* turned out. I may do 5 more just like it to jumpstart Knox's Spring wardrobe. I did hit a few kinks just trying to get to know my new machine so it's not as "clean" as I usually like (I'm kind of OCD...), but I was able to save it and it is definitely wearable!

*Those are a pair of Cherokee shorts from Target. I bought an extra pair to use as fabric for the applique. James LOVED hearing how I cut up a brand new pair of shorts ;) What he doesn't understand is the fabric would have cost just as much at Joann's and I would NEVER be able to buy this outfit for under $16. Not to mention the cuteness factor... Men.

He needs a haircut, I know... But oh my goodness, he's just so cute! ;)

I adore my babies' names and since sissy has a Hadley Carter shirt, I felt a David Knox one was in order...

[He was so proud of the choo-choo train he made on the fridge... ALL ABOARD!!!]

Best thing - it's been like 80 all week, so Knox will be wearing his new set TODAY :) Bring it on, Spring...

Looks like my weekend will be busy doing more work at my machines... I've got several "orders" for friends to complete, and even more half-way complete projects for my own kids.

Cute! I like the whale look too & I think knox's hair looks so cute longer... I have been letting my boys hair grow out, my son likes it long like Justin Bieber's hair! ha!

Adorable! I love your work and have searched etsy for someone with work I would call comparable to yours but no such luck. If you ever decide to take outside orders I would love to be put on your list! I have a basic sewing machine in my craft closet that I have yet to (3 years) learn how to use. I am the type to really desire to do crafty projects and get myself in way over my head. Well, enjoy your new toy and the beautiful weather while it lasts. Where I live we are being teased with a few nice days and expect some MORE snow.
