Love from (San Antonio!) Texas

So last last weekend James and I decided it was time for a little family getaway. Ok - we do ALOT of traveling... But it is always back to Tennessee for holidays and family visits. Which we love, but we've never traveled just for us... So we planned a little last-minute weekend trip to San Antonio!

After being iced in all week we were set to leave Friday morning, and woke up to this...

[Only pic I got because I had a towel wrapped around my wet head and was trying to keep a pair of James' sweat pants up...]

Ugh! We didn't let it stop us though. It may have taken us 2 hours to go the first 30 miles, but with a lot of prayers, patience, and 4-wheel drive - WE MADE IT!

We made a stop at my FAVORITE outlet mall in San Marcos on the way down, and then checked in to our hotel that afternoon, grabbed some dinner, and crashed!

[Saturday morning.]

We were able to score a NICE hotel with an indoor pool for less than half the going rate. (If you don't have a AAA membership... Get one!)

We had plans to hit the infamous River Walk for Saturday... Our first stop was the River Center mall where we did a little shopping and took Knox to the Dinosaur Quest exhibit...

[Helloooooo Di-saur! Roarrrrrrrr! Haha - he loved it!]

[Trying to get him to look at the camera and not the dinosaur. No such luck...]

When it started to warm up a little, we ventured outside to the River Walk. So gorgeous, and so much history!

I'd love to come back in late summer/fall... We even grabbed some insanely good lunch at Landry's on the RW... By that time everyone was tired so we headed back to the hotel for naps, and then...

SWIMMING! (So glad I picked up that little suit on Clearance last year!) It was a little cold for Hadley and I, but Knox and Daddy had a ball. That night we had a lite lunch in the room, and then went to the hotel restaraunt for dessert.

[Hanging out in the room...]

[Knox has been 100% potty trained for over a week now! I am SO proud of him. He went the entire tip without one accident. Even the car ride!]

We also had some fun things planned for Sunday, starting with... Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch!

It's kind of like a drive-through safari. I didn't have my zoom lens, so yes... The animals were THAT close!

Knox LOVED it! We saw giraffes, rhinos, zebras, ostriches, rams, and many many more...

[This guy stuck his head IN my window looking for some feed! Of course this was right after we passed the "Zebras May Bite" sign, so I'm pretty sure the entire park heard me scream!]

[An emu pecking at my window.]

It was GORGEOUS Sunday, so we stopped at the petting zoo and to take some pictures...

[Trying to bribe Knox to get in a picture with me :( ]

After NBWR, we headed back to the hotel for lunch and naps. Then... It was off to the Alamo!

I loved this. It was so beautiful and surreal to think about all of the history that has happened there...

[Knox throwing a fit at the Alamo...]

We decided to kick off our Super Bowl celebration my grabbing dinner at a yummy Mexican restaraunt and watching the kick-off... Well before we even got our food, Knox threw-up. ALL over EVERYTHING. Ugh!

[This is a frequent occurence for us... Knox has a bad habit of stuffing his mouth and not swallowing. AND has a sensitive gag reflex on top of that. Not a good combination...]

Needless to say, we got our food to go and enjoyed the rest of the Super Bowl from the comfort of the hotel... GO PACK! :)

I enjoyed my last cup of room service coffee Monday morning (really missing that...) and we got back on the road to head home.

All-in-all, we had a great time on our little mini-getaway! We just need to make it a priority to do it more often...

Such a fun family trip. I LOVE to visit San Antonio. If you didn't have a chance, try Mi Tierra next time you go. It's yummy in your tummy!! Also, La Cantera is a really neat outdoor shopping mall. It reminds me of something you would see in California.

How fun! This makes me realize we really need to get out to the wild life drive through. We've lived here for 3.5 years and still haven't made it there yet!
