Back to Real Life...

We finished out our New Year's Day right with a meal for good 'luck'...

Smothered pork chops with blackeyed peas, greens, and cornbread. Topped off with blueberry cobbler a la mode! (Please tell me someone else out there puts ketchup on their BEPs??? I thought that was normal until James told me otherwise, but now I've got him doing it!)

Hadley started off the year in her fun purple polka dot shirt. I LOVE these shabby little shirts Target has for babies. They're on clearance now and I think we've got one in just about every design.

[And PS - I promise I attempt to photograph my firstborn too. But he's never still long enough! Especially for the camera on my phone. Little goober.]

I kept our Christmas tree turned on through the New Year and I was fully intending to leave it up for another week, but I got in to an organizing mood during nap time on Sunday and down the tree came with all the rest of Christmas. Our holiday decor now sits in 4 51 gallon tubs (and then some) up in the attic. Yeah! I was also able to unpack our last moving box (it's been sitting in the garage and I've been putting it off for 8 months now), go through some out-dated frames and decor and send them to Good Will, and switch out all of Hadley's clothes she has grown out of. (Sad.) But I felt so accomplished. Nothing like getting rid of some clutter to start the year off right! :)

I've also been working on organizing and switching out toys, but we'll need some kind of storage system in the playroom before I'll be happy. We don't have a closet up there and it drives me CRAZY. Something I did do that Knox is loving, is this...

This table was meant for the playroom but the more I thought about it the more it made sense to have it downstairs [on non-carpeted floors] because I never let him color or do playdough without supervision. That, and he loves doing his puzzles while I cook and eating lunch there. It will be a great "kids" table for when he has little friends over, and we have plenty of "dead space" in our breakfast area to hold it.

[Daddy dressed her! Ok - I laid everything out... But he got the bloomers over the tights, the buttons in the back, and the bow on the right side, and that's improvement so I was proud ;) ]

Monday started out with Hadley's 4 month appointment... at 7:15 in the morning! Ugh - but I guess that's what we get for oversleeping and missing the original appointment last week... She's looking great. And (I'll have to add this to her 4 month post) at 4 months and 2 weeks she stands TALL at 26" (85%) and 14lbs 3oz (45%). Her head circumferance was 16.8" which is around 85%. I had a feeling she was going through a major growth spurt!

[Making me feel so guilty while we're waiting on the nurse to come in with the shot :( ]

Since we got home from Tennessee we've also started regular twice-a-day rice cereal feedings. The first few days were a lot of her spitting out the same bite over and over again, but she now cleans the whole bowl off like a champ! I'm off to the store today to get some fresh fruits and veggies to puree and stock our freezer with. I think she'll get her first taste of avacado tonight :)

Monday was also the first MOPS meeting of the year. Which with finally getting settled down from the holidays and traveling I had TOTALLY forgotten about preparing a craft for our meeting until the night before. Sunday night at 7pm, that is... Ugh! As much as I loath Wally World they saved my rear. With a little help from Google was able to get together enough supplies for these cute and easy Paperclip Bookmarks*...

Our MOPS ladies love these easy projects. (The ones where you can do a dozen in 10 minutes.) So despite my procrastinating - this project seemed to deliver. It's also a kid-friendly craft, so I know a bunch of the girls were taking home extra supplies for their little ones to play with.

Monday the 3rd was also James' and my 2nd wedding anniversary! To quote my Facebook status "2 kids has a funny way of making 2 years seem more like 5!" So true, but in the best way possible :) With our day coming right after all the holidays we really didn't feel up for a night on the town or any more heavy eating so we spent it at home. BUT - James had to go downtown for work and he came back with a little suprise for me. In a little blue box...

I LOVE it! I was so proud of him because I'd described this necklace to him once before but had never shown it to him! (Or dropped hints by sending him a link...) I have to thank the Tiffany's girl because apparently he just walked in there and said "I need a long key necklace..." and she took it from there. YAY! It's so cute layered with some of my shorter pendants and looks good dressed up or down. Way to go, babe :)

Today Knox is back at school and I think we are all FOUR grateful for that. Poor Hadley. He loves her to pieces. Literally... Yesterday she was sleeping in her cradle and he ran in there with his toy Black and Decker hammer, bopped her on the head and yelled "WAKE UP!" Aggghhh! After some crocodile tears she was OK but oohhh I could have smacked him. Not really, but you just DON'T mess with nap time around here...

That's all for now. So glad to get caught up on here :)

*Paperclip Bookmarks.... I used scrapbook paper punchers to punch out round and scalloped shapes out of textured cardstock to serve as the base for my bookmark. Use tacky glue to glue your paperclip on to the cardstock - open side facing down. And then glue whatever your heart desires on top... Scrapbook embellishments, buttons, jewels, etc. And you can even use mini ribbon to tie a cute bow on after the glue dries... See - fool proof, but still cute a practical :)
